2008 Annual DSM/Evo Shootout (pics and video link) -

Video>>>http://www.racevideoforums.com/forum...-coverage.html
OKIX's beast on the dyno
Coheterojo's RS piloted by Dennis Davis on his 11.3 run I believe.
The staging lanes were packed!
Mr. Lowe, here's your avatar
And my favorite shot of the day of Dan Buschur in the BR drag EVO...

This was the absolute best shootout I can ever remember. It was also the largest.
Total specators were 1790
Racers were 158
Total Mitsubishi fans at the race 1948. Kids 12 and under were free and there were a bunch of them too.
There were some concerns before this event with some of the people involved in the internet community not attending that the event may not have a good turn out. I think this year proves beyond a doubt that there is one event for DSM/EVO enthusiasts to attend at this IS that event. It also shows that less attention needs to be paid to the very few negative people that actually exist.
We had a record attendance this year both at our shop for the open house/dyno competition and for the actual Shootout.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dyno competition was divided into 2 categories this year. Stock Appearing Turbo and Non Stock Appearing Turbo.
The Dyno King for the Stock Appearing Turbo Class was won by:
Tom Powell in his EVO9 with an FP Red and BR build. Tom did his own tuning and was able to lay down 548 whp and 535 ft lbs of torque.
The Dyno King for the Non Stock Appearing Turbo Class was won by:
Nick Andy in his EVO8 with a 67 Ptrim and BR build. 701 whp and 551 ft lbs of torque.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was also some confusion because of a mistake on my part. We waited to dyno the FWD's until the end of the day because the dyno has to be changed over from 2wd to 4wd. When we did this I forgot to re-set the dyno to read for 2wd, which is a calculation based on the weight of the rollers. I dyno'd Daniel Daraiche's FWD Colt and the power came up 725 whp/620 ft lbs. The owners of the car and the crew were amazed and some of them told me it was not possible. I said the dyno doesn't lie, congrats you just won. Later that night I remembered I forgot to check the dyno screen for 2wd. The numbers were very over inflated because of this on the last two cars we dyno'd which were both FWD's. Sorry about the confusion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Q16 field was the overall fastest and by far the largest to date. We had 31 Q16 entries to fit into a 16 car field! There were 3-8 second entries, 10-9 second entries and 3- low 10 second entries. EXCELLENT field of cars.
There were NO 8 second "bracket" cars at this event, no surprise there. While 8 second passes were accomplished by three different entries none of them were able to pull it off more than 1 time. The 3 cars that managed 8 second runs in qualifying were:
#1 Qualifier in the Q16 was Serge Turcotte in his 94 Mirage, he also set the low ET and top MPH for the event qualifying with an 8.59 at 168 mph. Unfortunately he made a mess on the track twice and was not able to win the Q16 due to mechanical failures.
#2 Kevin Kwiatowski in his FWD DSM with an 8.87 at 158 mph, unfortunately his car wasn't able to compete due to a trans failure.
#3 Daniel Buschur in our EVO8 with an 8.96 at 166 mph. For the record, this was the only EVO that ran 8's all day long and it was done on a small FP, HTA67 Ptrim turbo.
Q16 Class winners:
1st place, Jesse Abele, qualified #7 with a 9.34 at 147.
2nd place, Kevin Jewer, qualified #4 with a 9.12 at 153.
**Also congrats to Kevin for running his first 8 second pass.
3rd place, Dan Buschur, qualified #3 with an 8.96 at 166.
3rd place, Jared Early, qualified #9 with an 9.76 at 140.
Thanks to all the Q16 racers this year, it was a VERY exciting and VERY fast class.
